hosTile

hosTile currently supporting Denial of Service!

What is hosTile?

hosTile is a 2d graphics engine. More info can, of course, be found on the project page. To summarize: thanks to Jim Adams's great book, Programming Role Playing Games with DirectX, I was inspired to take his idea of a tile engine and run with it. Plus it would help me learn DirectX. So now I've got some iterations of the code that I've decided to release here under the GNU GPL. So pretty much hosTile is an encapsulation of the DirectX drawing/blitting functions to allow any would-be game designer to easily build simple game engines such as those used in the wonderful games of yore. A Final Fantasy clone? Do it. Mario Bros.? Do it. Or if you'd just like to help make this simple engine better and more accessible, well that's great too!

What needs to be done on hosTile?

Currently I'm implementing new features all the time. Adding tweaks to such things as default variables and function calls, etc. As I use it in my game Denial of Service I get a chance to see what works and what doesn't work. I'm quite happy with all that's been done. The next released version may or may not be 0.92 like I had previously thought. If this class ends and I still haven't put 0.92 up well then I'll just make 1.0. Because at that point it's done all I wanted it to. I'll probably move on to another project which is currently unannounced. Exciting, huh?

Who can help with hosTile?

Anyone with C/C++ programming experience! If you have a great idea for an added feature, let me know! Post on the forums. Send me email. I'm very open to suggestions and any help would be greatly appreciated!

A big thanks to SourceForge.net for being kind enough to host my project, hosTile. My name is Ward Childress (aka fruitofwisdom) and this project is an open source (under the GNU GPL) 2d graphics engine in DirectX. But you already knew that. Now go! Download it!
